New Orthotic Consideration For Early Ambulatory Individuals With Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy
It is well understood that resting Ankle Foot Orthoses are recommended as standard of care for those with Duchenne muscular dystrophy. In many cases, that is the only lower extremity orthosis required. Although, in some cases of ambulatory individuals, there is the potential to benefit from daytime use of foot and supramalleolar orthotics. We will discuss the “when”, “who”, “why” and “how” of these recommendations to help guide clinical reasoning. Open discussion and questions are encouraged.
