Join 9-year-old Tyler Armstrong on Training Climb to Mt. Baldy on August 17 as he Prepares to Climb Mt. Aconcagua to Benefit CureDuchenne

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., August 1, 2013 – Nine-year-old Tyler Armstrong of Yorba Linda, Calif., is climbing Mt. Baldy on August 17 as a training climb as he prepares to climb Mt. Aconcagua in Argentina, the highest peak (22,837 ft.) in both the Western and Southern Hemispheres, later this year to benefit CureDuchenne. CureDuchenne is a nonprofit that raises awareness and funds research to find a cure for Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

The Mt. Baldy climb is part of the fifth annual Climb to CureDuchenne event where people across the country pick a mountain, hill or trail to hike to raise awareness and fund research to find a cure for Duchenne. Tyler will climb Mt. Baldy with the Hawken’s Heroes team to support his friends who live with Duchenne.

Duchenne is a progressive muscle-wasting disease that impacts 1 in 3,500 boys. Boys are usually diagnosed by 5, in a wheelchair by 12 and most don’t survive their mid-20s. The funds raised for Climb to CureDuchenne support the most promising research projects aimed at treating and curing Duchenne.

“I enjoy climbing to the top of mountains and helping others,” said Tyler.  “You can join me and climb to the top of Mt. Baldy to support all the boys with Duchenne who can’t climb, run or walk and need our help to find a cure.”

“Climb to CureDuchenne is an opportunity to raise awareness and fund critical research to find a cure for Duchenne,” said Paul Miller, co-founder of CureDuchenne. Miller’s 16-year-old son Hawken lives with Duchenne. “It is urgent that we find treatments and a cure now. We will continue to climb mountains and do whatever it takes to fund promising research until we find a cure for this devastating disease.”

About CureDuchenne

CureDuchenne is a national nonprofit organization located in Newport Beach, Calif., dedicated to finding a cure for Duchenne, the most common and most lethal form of muscular dystrophy. As the leading genetic killer of young boys, Duchenne affects more than 300,000 boys worldwide.

CureDuchenne has garnered international attention for its efforts to raise funds and awareness for Duchenne through venture philanthropy. With the help of CureDuchenne’s distinguished international panel of Scientific Advisors, funds raised by CureDuchenne support the most promising research aimed at treating and curing Duchenne. To date, seven CureDuchenne research projects have made their way into human clinical trials – a unique accomplishment as few health-related nonprofits have been successful in being a catalyst for human clinical trials.
