CureDuchenne Launches “Dollar 4 Duchenne” Campaign Today for World Duchenne Awareness Day

Newport Beach, Calif., SEPTEMBER 7, 2014 – CureDuchenne launched the “Dollar 4 Duchenne” campaign today during World Duchenne Awareness Day to fund research to find a cure for Duchenne muscular dystrophy. The “Dollar 4 Duchenne” campaign encourages people to donate one dollar to help fund Duchenne research. “Dollar 4 Duchenne” is part of a comprehensive CureDuchenne fundraising campaign to raise $7 million to fund a Duchenne research project.

CureDuchenne, a nonprofit that raises awareness and funds research to find a cure for Duchenne, recently announced a new $7 million collaboration with the biotechnology company Prosensa (NASDAQ: RNA) to help get experimental medicines to patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy more quickly. The new initiative will help restart dosing of medication for patients who participated in previous clinical studies of exon skipping drugs – a promising approach to the disease – and could help accelerate the development timelines of four exon skipping drug candidates.

“Every dollar for Duchenne can make a difference,” said Debra Miller, founder and CEO of CureDuchenne. “Everyone can help cure this devastating disease and give boys who suffer from Duchenne a chance of a lifetime. We need this funding now in order to accelerate access to potential life-saving drugs to help this generation of those impacted with Duchenne. Please give a dollar for Duchenne.”

Duchenne is a progressive muscle-wasting disease that impacts one in every 3,500 boys. Boys are usually diagnosed at age 5, are in a wheelchair by 12 and most don’t survive their mid-20s. Currently there is no cure for Duchenne.
