4th Annual Getzlaf Golf Shootout Raises More Than $345,000 to Fund Research to CureDuchenne
Newport Beach, Calif., SEPTEMBER 15, 2014 – The 4th Annual Getzlaf Golf Shootout raised more than $345,000 to benefit CureDuchenne, a nonprofit that raises awareness and funds research to find a cure for Duchenne muscular dystrophy. All proceeds of the event will fund Duchenne research that could help bring potential life-saving drugs to Duchenne patients. Ryan Getzlaf, captain of the Anaheim Ducks, hosted the Getzlaf Golf Shootout. More than 250 guests attended the party at Sutra in Costa Mesa on September 6 and 146 golfers participated in the tournament at Monarch Beach Golf Links in Dana Point on September 7.
Each foursome included a professional athlete or celebrity as a fifth player. Getzlaf was joined by current and former Anaheim Ducks teammates and coaches including Bruce Boudreau, Scott Neidermayer, Teemu Selanne, Tim Jackman, Clayton Stoner, Ryan Kesler, Bob Murray, Frederik Andersen, Mark Fistric, Brian Hayward, Brian Sutherby, Dany Heatley, Kent Huskins, Andy Sutton and Emerson Etem. Actor Kevin Connolly from Entourage also participated in both events.
“My wife, Paige, and I are proud to support CureDuchenne and help fund critical research that can help accelerate access to potential life-saving drugs for those impacted with Duchenne who desperately need it,” said Getzlaf. “Thank you to my teammates for supporting the event and to all the generous donors who are making a difference in the lives of those with Duchenne.”
Duchenne is a progressive muscle-wasting disease that impacts one in every 3,500 boys. Boys are usually diagnosed at age 5, are in a wheelchair by 12 and most don’t survive their mid-20s. Currently there is no cure for Duchenne.
Getzlaf Golf Shootout sponsors included Patriot Environmental Services, CNC Motors, The Sports Corporation, Bauer Hockey, Taylor Made, Chino Valley Medical Center, Ayres Hotel, RESQWATER, Straub Distributing, Audi Mission Viejo and Flight Options.
