7th Annual Getzlaf Golf Shootout Raises More than $546,000 To Help Find a Cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy

Newport Beach, CA (Sept. 20, 2017) – The 7th Annual Getzlaf Golf Shootout benefiting CureDuchenne raised more than $546,000 to help find a cure for Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Hosted by Anaheim Ducks Captain Ryan Getzlaf and his wife Paige, the Getzlaf Golf Shootout has raised more than $2 million to date for CureDuchenne and their mission to save the lives of those with Duchenne. A record breaking crowd of more than 500 people gathered together at Time Nightclub on Friday, September 8 to kick off the 7th Annual Getzlaf Golf Shootout, presented by ActivePDF.
Sponsors, golf enthusiasts, athletes, and individuals dedicated to finding a cure took to the course the following day at Monarch Beach Golf Links in Dana Point, CA. Current and former Anaheim Ducks teammates, coaches and other celebrities joined in as 5th players in the sold-out golf tournament. In addition to Ryan Getzlaf, other athletes and celebrities in attendance throughout the weekend were Bryan Allen, Sam August, François Beauchemin, Kevin Bieksa, Jared Boll, Steve Bradley, Andrew Cogliano, Patrick Eaves, Chuck Finley, John Gibson, Brian Hayward, Charlie Hough, Billy Huard, Ondřej Kašem, Nic Kerdiles, Ryan Kesler, Mike LeClerc, Josh Manson, Jason Marshall, Jaycob Megna, Ryan Miller, Bodie Miller, Brandon Montour Scott Niedermayer, Nick Ritchie, Rickard Rakell, Teemu Selänne, Logan Shaw, Jakob Silfverberg, Andy Sutton, Scottie Upshall, Sami Vatanen, Antoine Vermette, Chris Wagner, and Mike Witt.

Tournament activities included a mechanical bull, Anaheim Ducks Power Player’s t-shirt launcher, a million dollar hole-in-one contest and give-a-ways from TravisMathew and Violent Gentlemen Hockey Club.

CureDuchenne is a nonprofit that raises awareness and funds research to find a cure for Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Duchenne is a fatal genetic muscle disease that impacts one in every 5,000 boys. Duchenne patients are usually diagnosed at age 5, lose their ability to walk by 12 and most don’t survive their mid-20s. Currently there is no cure for Duchenne.
