NHL All-Star Ryan Getzlaf to Host 3rd Annual Getzlaf Golf Shootout to Benefit CureDuchenne on September 8

Newport Beach, Calif., August 5, 2013:  Ryan Getzlaf, captain of the Anaheim Ducks, is hosting the third annual Getzlaf Golf Shootout on September 8 to benefit CureDuchenne, a nonprofit that raises awareness and funds research to find a cure for Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Gold medalist and NHL All-Star Getzlaf, along with his Anaheim Ducks teammates including Corey Perry, Dustin Penner and Sauk Koivu, and other hockey players, celebrities and community leaders will participate in the golf tournament to support CureDuchenne. Scott Niedermayer, assistant coach of the Anaheim Ducks, Stanley Cup champion, Olympic gold medalist and Hockey Hall of Fame inductee, is also scheduled to participate.

This charity event will be held at the Monarch Beach Golf Links in Dana Point on Sunday, September 8. Each foursome will be teamed up with a professional athlete or celebrity for a unique and exciting day on the green. A pre-golf dinner reception will be held at Sutra in Costa Mesa on Saturday, September 7 and will include a live and silent auction.

Duchenne is a progressive muscle-wasting disease that impacts one in 3,500 boys. Boys are usually diagnosed at age 5, are in a wheelchair by 12 and most don’t live past their mid-20s. CureDuchenne supports the translation of research and development programs into the clinic to focus on developing potential therapies to transform the treatment of Duchenne. CureDuchenne has funded seven research projects that have gone into human clinical trials.

“Duchenne is a devastating disease that impacts boys and robs them of the ability to walk, run and play sports,” said Getzlaf. “My wife, Paige, and I are committed to support CureDuchenne and their efforts in finding a cure for Duchenne. It is urgent to find a cure now in order to give these boys a chance. We hope you’ll join us at the golf tournament and provide hope for the 300,000 boys living with Duchenne.”

The Getzlaf Golf Shootout is an opportunity to interact with athletes, play golf and support a great cause. Foursomes cost $2,800 and include a celebrity or athlete as a fifth golfer plus eight tickets to the pre-golf dinner reception. Hockey fans are welcome to meet and mingle with the players and celebrities at the reception at Sutra. Individual tickets to the reception are $100. “We are delighted to have Ryan and Paige Getzlaf’s continued support,” said Debra Miller, founder of CureDuchenne. “Our CureDuchenne champions help us get closer to the cure. We need to continue to fund promising research until there is a treatment and a cure for everyone who lives with Duchenne.”

Sponsors include The Sports Corporation, Bauer Hockey, The California Endowment, CNC Motors, The Hundred Acre Wine Group and Straub Distributing.
